AFTER HOURS START-UP GUIDE

Welcome to After Hours—a roleplay section of the URPG, and a PWN exclusive! After Hours (commonly abbreviated as AH) is a diverse, post-apocalyptic, Pokemon RP that welcomes all levels of experience in writing and roleplay! This guide is meant to outline the recommended reading path while beginning your journey into AH. Read at your own pace, and please feel free to send questions via private message (PM) to AH’s staff, known as Chroniclers (listed here), or put them into the #creative-exploits channel on URPG’s Discord server, which you can obtain an invite to here. You can also use our General Chat & Questions & Suggestions thread.

Please note that the summaries of links provided in this guide are not a substitute to reading the linked threads, and you should still read the linked threads for additional guidelines not mentioned in the summaries.

AFTER HOURS ENCYCLOPEDIA

This is a centralized location for most of the information you will need to get started. Here, you will read about the worlds you are roleplaying in, the races you can play as, the rules of the role play, and everything in between. As you read, you might want to begin to think about the character you will create in this world.

1.1. FACE CLAIMS

This is an optional step, intended only if you plan to use a face claim for your character. A face claim is where you derive your character’s appearance off of a pre-existing character. Please note that we only allow fictional face claims, and do not allow face claims of real people or identities. Again, this is completely optional—feel free to just describe your character, or to do original art for them.

1.2. RESERVATIONS

Have your eye on a certain legendary or a face claim, but can’t get in an app yet? Place a reservation for a specific legendary character here, or reserve a face claim here!

1.3. GRANDMASTER CHARACTER LIST

Want to check out After Hours’ character demographics? Browse them here.

SUBMIT A CHARACTER APPLICATION

Your character application is your standard form to let us know what kind of character you are creating. Fill out the listed fields—they are all required to some degree, and should show an understanding of the section’s rules and world. When you’re done, post it in the Character Applications board. Can’t fill it out in one sitting? No problem, feel free to post a WIP (Work In Progress) application and finish it at your own pace. Need a bit of an example to help get you started? Feel free to check out the Character Statistics board, which houses the applications of our accepted characters. Remember that your character application is not only for you—it will also give others an idea of what your character is like when they are looking to roleplay with you.

A Chronicler will then review your application. If everything looks good, they will move your character to the Character Statistics board, and you will be free to begin roleplaying! If there are some issues, they will either PM you on PWN or they will direct message (DM) you on Discord to discuss your character.

YOUR FIRST POSTS

Below are the first things you’ll want to do as soon as you’re accepted. Note that these steps and te order they are in are optional—you are free to find RPs, create content, etc. in whatever order or way you’d like! This is simply to give you an idea of how you can get started.

3.1. JOURNAL GUIDELINES

One of the first things people usually do is start a journal. Essentially, these are a freeform way to experiment with your character, and earn P while you’re at it! Once you’ve read the guidelines, feel free to check out examples in the Journals board or jump right in by posting a thread for your own!

3.2. CHARACTER PLOTTING BOARD

This board is for finding people to RP with. Post a thread to find plots and threads for your character, or post in other peoples’ threads if you’d like to RP with their characters! The official guidelines for this are located here.

3.3. THREAD TAGGING

After Hours uses an abbreviation system to designate different types of threads. We have four different types:

OM / Open Mission: A mission that is currently accepting players.

CM / Closed Mission: A mission that is not currently accepting players.

OP / Open Private: A non-mission thread that is currently open for anyone to join.

CP / Closed Private: A non-mission thread that is not currently open for anyone to join.

When browsing these boards, it’s helpful to keep these above guidelines in mind!

3.4. OPEN MISSIONS AND THREADS

A thread that handily lists all missions that are currently accepting, as well as all lonely/open individual threads! This is a great way to jump in on a pre-existing scenario if you’re not quite comfortable yet with starting your own.

REWARDS!

Once you’ve started making your first posts, here are some great places to go!

4.1. SODA SHOPPE

This is AH’s own reward store. Use the P you earn to purchase a variety of in-character rewards like additional abilities and powerful items, or use it to buy Pokemon for use in the rest of the URPG! This is also where you can convert P to URPG currency.

4.2. TOKEN EXCHANGE COUNTER

Tokens are an awesome new way for you to earn additional moves for your Pokemon to use in the URPG. Once you get started, you can start racking those moves up by regularly completing journals, mission posts, and individual posts!

ONWARD!

Once you’re settled, here are some things that aren’t necessary to look at, but might be useful or interesting to peruse.

5.1. CHARACTER OF THE MONTH

Every month, we celebrate the creativity of our members by honoring the characters they create. Vote or view past winners here!

5.2. JOKE APPLICATION THREAD

Post your After Hours Application memes here. <3
